Underground Services Surveys to PAS 128:2014

The accurate detection, identification, verification, and location of utility assets

Underground Services pipes and cables

Underground Services Surveys

The accurate detection, identification, verification, and location of utility assets has always proved to be a difficult task, subject to interpretation and inaccuracies.

The PAS 128 specification provides a clear and unambiguous guideline to the provision of utility assets with respect to the detection, verification, and location of active, abandoned, redundant or unknown utilities.

Having all the utility information to hand prior to starting design proposals will save time, reduce the risk of safety to workers and avoid damage to third party assets

Desktop Statutory Utilities Report

Prior to tracing underground services on site, we would recommend a Statutory Utilities Search from local service providers which can provide useful information on the presence of services in the area from Utility records. A range of options are available for consideration.

A range of options are available from the key five services such as power, gas, water, telecom and drainage to a full search of all service providers.

Radiodetection and Ground Penetrating Radar

Radiodetection equipment is used to locate some services directly such as power cables, other services have a signal induced and are then traced from above ground to provide the location and depth of a service. Other services including non-conductive pipes and fibre optics cables are located using ground penetrating radar equipment.

Drainage Surveys

Additional information can be provided for drainage services in and adjacent to the survey area, inspection covers are lifted, and individual drainage systems are traced using flexitrace reels and Radiodetection equipment to provide the location and depth along the route, pipe sizes and materials are also recorded.

All located features are surveyed with Robotic Total Stations and processed to provide accurate and reliable service information compliant with PAS 128 specifications. The completed survey is provided in a format of your choice and can be combined with topographical and building surveys.
